Critical Reading is one of the hardest parts of the SAT for most students. This class focuses heavily on teaching students how to significantly improve their critical reading scores by using close reading skills, which most students do not currently possess and which they do not learn in school! Emphasis is placed on consistent use of strategies and on practice. Vocabulary--essential in improving critical reading skills--will also be an integral part of this class. The second most difficult part of the SAT is the 25-minute Essay section. This class will teach students how to write high-scoring essays and will help students develop their own examples to use on the essay. Students will write essays every week for practice. Students will also learn how to dramatically improve their scores for the grammar portion of the SAT.
IV) How to Write Winning College Essays

$58/90-min lesson, or $650

This class will provide students with the know-how to write effective essays for college applications that stand out in the admission process. They will learn what colleges are looking for, what the common mistakes are in writing an essay, and how to develop their own essays. We will focus on the prompts for the UCS, but will also cover prompts for the Common Application (Common App) if time permits. We will spend time reviewing successful essays, brainstorming ideas for college essay prompts, and writing essays. The instructor will provide edits and personal feedback on student essays.
